IKONOS Service for European PIs delivered to ESA

Vienna, 29.09.2008

The catalogue and product ordering service system for European IKONOS satellite imagery is now ready for use by Principal Investigators (PIs) who have corresponding arrangements with the European Space Agency (ESA). EOX delivered the system to ESA during the On-Site Acceptance Test (OSAT) held end of July.

The software development was carried out by EOX under ESA‘s International Gateways programme primed by Siemens Austria. It is the technical implementation of a previous agreement between ESA and the IKONOS provider European Space Imaging, Germany, defining IKONOS as a so-called Third Party Mission of ESA. For these missions ESA makes available imagery at no direct cost to PIs to be able to conduct science and research activities.

Within this project EOX demonstrated its mastering of INFEO catalog and ordering specifications and of SOA workflow mechanisms including FTP delivery of imagery to PI users. Furthermore, EOX showed its committment for consequent deployment of Open Source software, by the technolpgy choice PostgresSQL and PostGIS for the catalogue and preview archive implementation.
