Towards e-Environment
Prague, 27.03.2009
The SOSI activity under EOX technical lead has been selected as "Good Practice Demonstrator for the Sharing of Environmental Information" by NESIS, the EIONET Community based network to promote the uptake of environmental monitoring and reporting ICT solutions by public authorities. A first comprehensive paper on SOSI was presented at the "Towards e-Environment" conference in two sessions by Gerhard Triebnig, EOX, and Milan Novacek, ANF Data (download paper).
The SOSI project, although still preliminary concerning its results and output, is achieving significant international recognition due to its "shaping" influence on important initiatives which are:
- GMES-LMCS concerning the setup of the SDI as developed by geoland2;
- Current Snow and Glacier Science Service developments in harmonisation with GENESI-DR;
- Future evolution of ESA/SSE concerning INSPIRE conformance, “Quality of Experience”, security, etc.;
- Next European FTS Land Cover production "all on-line" set-up;
- and potentially SEIS w.r.t. Data Centre and Member States Infrastructure (such as those studied in NESIS)
By supporting a shared vision towards an interoperable information infrastructure, the SOSI activity contributes to the fostering of the creation of the Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS) and a coherent frame for existing good practices.
