Galileo Road Application Simulator
The GRAS Project was an investigation of positioning performances which can be achieved using mass-market receivers of the Global Positioning System GPS. The study analysed availability of GPS signals in complex environments such as urban canyons. The GMV Polaris navigation satellite simulation tool was applied to airborne laser scanner derived 3D-city models and in-situ verification of GPS reception was performed. With the thus derived confidence in the quality of the Polaris simulation also the Galileo satellite positioning services were simulated in order to determine indicators of synergistic Galileo and GPS performance. An interactive Flash animation offered here for download (GRAS Tool) illustrates the results for a number of downtown locations in the City of Vienna.
